Hello, I’m Zahra!

I joined the Seascape lab in 2024 as part of the MSc in Biodiversity, Conservation and Management.

I completed my undergraduate degree in Philosophy at New York University, where I became interested in environmental ethics, justice, and the global politics of conservation. I later worked as a researcher in psychology, where I saw firsthand how climate change and justice issues intersect with disciplines across the social and natural sciences, and it prompted my interest in conservation.

My MSc dissertation investigates how climate change considerations are being incorporated into marine protected area planning in Antarctica and the Southern Ocean. Through a policy analysis, I aim to assess how current frameworks can evolve to support more equitable and climate-smart marine spatial planning. This work contributes to the ERC-funded PLAnT project and is supervised by Dr. Catarina Frazão Santos, Dr. Lisa Wedding, and Dr. Mari Mulyani.

Outside of my academic work I enjoy music, going on walks, and spending time with my friends.
