Sophie Taylor

I’m Sophie, a Research Assistant in the Seascape Ecology Lab. I have recently finished my undergraduate degree in Geography at Oxford.

My research assistant work so far has focussed on seascape ecology, traditional ecological knowledges and blue carbon sequestration at the science-policy interface. I have field experience in both terrestrial and marine environments through involvement with Operation Wallacea, in Indonesia and Croatia. I was involved in habitat surveys from Sulawesi, Indonesia which are being used by NASA to calculate carbon sequestration in these rainforests. The marine surveys were a mixture of belt transect surveys, point count, and benthic mapping, which are being used by Operation Wallacea’s long-term monitoring and local conservation organisations.

In the future I would love to work in environmental policy with a focus on the marine environment and its resources. Outside of lab work I love to scuba dive and have a keen interest in fitness.
