Emily Peterson
Hi, I’m Emily. I studied in the Biodiversity, Conservation and Management MSc program at the University of Oxford.
My research interests focus on how remote sensing and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) can be combined with traditional field methods to advance coral reef restoration, explore habitat connectivity, and improve species monitoring.
I come from a background in geospatial science, and my past work has focused on applying geospatial concepts to marine management. I have worked with NGOs in Belize to develop a method to use UAVs to calculate coral density change following mass bleaching events to help restoration workers understand areas of resiliency. I have also worked with The Nature Conservancy detecting bathymetric change in Palmyra Atoll to understand how recent conservation initiatives are helping to restore lagoons.
